Strong-willed Children
Working with parents to provide skills that help parents feel more effective and reducing conflict and the power struggles that occur at home are some of our favorite sessions as Westside Child Psychology.
Parent sessions can be very effective in providing the tools required to better manage strong willed children and to reduce the occurrence of threats, punishments, and raised voices that we know do not result in long term change and only work to increase disrespect between family members. We also find that when children or teenagers are diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder (e.g., ADHD, ASD), learning how to parent more effectively with their children’s neurobiology in mind will lead to more harmony in the home environment.
